The fourth meeting of the Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Water Issues was held in Turkmenabat.
The event was held by the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Ganiyev and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan for the Agro-Industrial Complex T. Atahalliyev.

It was noted that warm and friendly relations between the heads of the two states open a broad path to further strengthening ties in water management. Thanks to wise and far-sighted policies, the management of transboundary water resources between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan is carried out within the framework of good neighborliness and respect for each other’s interests.
The parties discussed the agreements reached at the third meeting of the Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Water Issues and agreed to accelerate the implementation of projects for registering Uzbekistan’s water facilities in Turkmenistan, “constructing a wall against water filtration” at the “Sultonsanjar” dam of the Tuyamuyun hydroelectric complex. The readiness to implement an automated water accounting system at gauging stations was confirmed. Attention was also paid to the issues of strengthening the Amudarya banks, reducing water resource losses by leveling the channels, and ensuring the unhindered passage of water.

An online meeting was held between representatives of the Turkmen State Water Management Research, Production and Design Institute “Тurkmensuvilimtaslama” of the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan and the Research Institute of Irrigation and Water Problems of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The parties discussed methods of flood prevention and measures to strengthen banks. Corresponding proposals were also made to prevent dangerous situations that may arise along the Amudarya. Specialists from the two countries’ institutes agreed to work out specific issues before the next meeting. The corresponding protocol was signed.

An agreement was reached to hold the fifth meeting of the Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Commission on Water Issues in Uzbekistan.
