Uzbekistan, Turkey develop cooperation in education

A delegation of members of the Council of Higher Education and rectors of several higher education institutions of Turkey arrived in Uzbekistan.

On January 24, Tashkent State University of Economics hosted a roundtable discussion on “Uzbekistan – Turkey: Prospects for cooperation in education”.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey Erol Özvar, Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abduqodir Toshqulov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Uzbekistan Olgan Bekar, as well as rectors of over 20 higher education institutions.

The participants discussed the higher education systems of the two countries, the formation of policies in this sphere, the interests of universities and the common tasks outlined in the national development plans.

Views were exchanged on opening branches of leading Turkish universities in Uzbekistan, allocating grants for the education of Uzbekistan students in higher education institutions of Turkey, training specialists for the agricultural, technical and engineering industries, expanding the format of cooperation in such areas as mathematics, physics, chemistry and geology, organizational and legal issues of the opening of Uzbekistan – Turkey University in the city of Tashkent.

Mr. Erol Özvar noted that the number of Uzbekistan students studying in Turkey is approaching 2.5 thousand. Today’s event brought together rectors of leading universities and institutions of the two countries to share experiences. 

“At the initiative of the leaders of the two countries, we are planning to establish the activities of Uzbekistan – Turkey University in the city of Tashkent”, Mr. Erol Özvar said.

Previously, cooperation between the two countries developed in such areas as Turkish studies, Turkish language and literature, Uzbek language and literature, continental studies, and the history of the peoples of Central Asia. In recent years, cooperation has enhanced and covered the areas of architecture and construction, tourism and hotel business, light and textile industries, and agricultural production technologies. The Faculty of Turkish Studies operates at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

Experts expressed their opinions on the draft agreement on the opening of Uzbekistan – Turkey University in Tashkent and its charter.
