Uzbekistan to host a forum to combat desertification
The delegation of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Forestry took part in the fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), which was held on 10-21 May in the city of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
At the conference, it was announced that in 2023 Uzbekistan will be one of the first among the CIS countries to host a meeting of the Executive Committee of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. The event will be held with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
At the opening ceremony of the conference, the nationwide project “Yashil Makon” (Green Space), initiated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and aimed at large-scale tree planting throughout the country, air purification in cities and villages, adaptation to climate change and combating desertification, was emphasized.
