Uzbekistan to host International Olympiad named after Mirzo Ulugbek

On June 19-23, 2018, an International Olympiad named after Mirzo Ulugbek among 10-11th year students of secondary schools in physics and astronomy will be held for the first time in the city of Samarkand.

The main goal of organizing the International Olympiad named after Mirzo Ulugbek is international propaganda of contribution of our great ancestors to the world civilization, to educate the younger generation as worthy followers of outstanding scientists of the country, to establish friendly ties with peers from other countries.

During the years of independence, students took part in more than 50 different international Olympiads, where they won about 300 medals. However, until now, prestigious international Olympiads have not been held in Uzbekistan. The Olympiad in Samarkand will become a new page in the history of the country and will serve as confirmation of the growing role of the country in the world.

According to the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the international Olympiad named after Mirzo Ulugbek will involve talented students from a number of countries around the world. It is planned that six people will take part in the Olympiad from each participating country (3 in physics, 3 in astronomy), as well as a group of two team leaders.

The International Olympiad will be held in two stages: theoretical and experimental. The materials will be presented in Uzbek, Russian and English.

The jury will include well-known international experts in physics and astronomy, the teaching staff of the CIS countries, as well as leading scientists and practitioners of the country.

Participants of the international Olympiad will be demonstrated the tourism potential of the country, an excursion to the sights of the city of Samarkand will be organized, cultural and educational events will be held.

The winners of the Olympiad, who take part from Uzbekistan, according to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On rewarding and material stimulation of gifted youth of Uzbekistan” of October 13, 2008 will be admitted to higher education institutions on a preferential basis.

This international Olympiad will be held every two years.
