Uzbekistan to chair Women Leaders’ Dialogue in Central Asia

The chairmanship in the Women Leaders’ Dialogue in Central Asia next year is entrusted to the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva.

This decision, according to the upper house of Parliament, was made on December 23, during the first meeting on establishment of the Women Leaders’ Dialogue in Central Asia, via videoconference.

Uzbekistan at the event was represented by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva. Delegates from four other Central Asian countries, heads of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) and the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS also took part in the event.

It was emphasized that the relevant decision was made in connection with the high appraisal by all participants of the meeting for the effective work being carried out in Uzbekistan to ensure gender equality, increase the role of women in the country, as well as at the suggestion of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Central Asia and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Natalia Gherman.

The role of women in strengthening interstate cooperation in Central Asia, their participation in state and public affairs, assistance in transformations and the implementation of reforms, including those implemented to ensure gender equality, protect the rights and interests of women, were discussed at the meeting.
