On 4 May, the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan will start the celebration of Europe Day in Uzbekistan – annual event commemorating the values of peace and unity.

2023 is the European Year of Skills underlines professional and social inclusion and growth, targeting, in particular, youth, women and minorities; skills that contribute to the green and digital transitions, enable innovation and competitiveness and can also be linked to the education and research pillar of the #GlobalGateway.

“Continuity between generations is a distinctive feature of the Uzbek people. From generation to generation, the people of Uzbekistan carefully preserve and invariably pass on to each other the beautiful tradition of “usta-shogird” (English: from a master to a student), when young people learn craft and professional skills from senior mentors. We are pleased that the European Union also contributes to this chain of experience and knowledge exchange. Through projects and programs funded by the EU, we provide women, youth and rural population with skills that are not only in demand today, but also contribute to their further sustainable growth and development”, notes Charlotte Adriaen, the Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan.
