Uzbekistan takes part in Wiki Loves Earth international photographic competition
12:00 / 2023-05-20

As previously reported, Uzbekistan, among 43 other countries, will participate in the Wiki Loves Earth annual international photographic competition this year. This traditional competition has been held since 2013, every year in May and June.

The competition started on May 15 in Uzbekistan and will continue until June 15. It is dedicated to collecting photographs of protected natural areas – nature reserves, national parks, scenic areas, landscape areas, and gardens to illustrate articles in the World Free Encyclopedia “Wikipedia” and other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Uzbekistan participates in the competition to attract the general public’s attention to the country’s nature and develop ecological tourism.

The national stage of the competition is organized by Wikimedians of the Uzbek language User Group and the Russian Wikivoyage community with the support of the Wikimedia Foundation and UNESCO, as well as the Ministry of Natural Resources of Uzbekistan.

This year the competition will be held in two categories: landscapes (including individual trees if they are natural monuments) and macro photography (animals, plants, mushrooms).

Ten winners will be selected locally. An international jury will select up to 20 photographs, with a maximum of 10 from each category.

At the international level, up to two photos from each author will be selected to get into the TOP-20, as our goal is, among other things, a high diversity of the regions represented, natural monuments, and authors among the winners.

The competition winners will be awarded Wikimedia Foundation vouchers for making purchases in the online store for 650 thousand UZS and valuable prizes from the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The winner will receive a laptop, and the winners of the following two places – tablets, and the next three – smartphones.
