As previously reported, this year, Uzbekistan and more than 40 other countries are taking part in the International Contest “Wiki Loves Monuments”.

This is an annual international photo contest held in September-October. Participants from different countries take photographs of historical buildings and landmarks and then upload them to Wikimedia Commons. The competition started on October 1 in Uzbekistan and will run until October 31.

The purpose of Uzbekistan’s participation in the contest is to attract wide public attention to the cultural heritage of the country and develop tourism.

The republican stage of the contest is organized by the Wikimedia Community of Uzbekistan and the Russian Wikigid community participants with the support of the Wikimedia Foundation and UNESCO, as well as the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The winners of the contest will be awarded vouchers from the Wikimedia Foundation. They will also receive valuable prizes from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
