Uzbekistan solemnly meets courageous compatriots who worthily defended the honor of the country at the Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo

Athletes who defended the honor of Uzbekistan at the Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo were solemnly met at Tashkent International Airport named after Islam Karimov.

The sports delegation of Uzbekistan left for the New Uzbekistan Park, where the main events of the solemn meeting ceremony took place.

Uzbekistan athletes won 8 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals. In total – 19 medals, and took 16th place among all countries participating in the Games.

The solemn meeting was attended by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov, as well as representatives of state and public organizations, athletes, parents of Paralympians, media representatives.

Speaker of the Legislative Chamber Nurdinjon Ismoilov, Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, parents of athletes and Paralympians noted that the unprecedented victory of our courageous compatriots instills in us boundless pride. It is the result of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s attention to the development of sports in the country, in particular paralympic sports.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes at the ceremony, the winner of the Paralympic Games Ulugbek Kuranbayev expressed gratitude to the Head of the state for the opportunities created for thorough preparation for the Paralympic Games, high attention and care for youth.

About five thousand athletes from 168 countries fought for victory at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Therefore, of course, it was not easy to take a place among the winners of the Games. 

The sports delegation of Uzbekistan became the 16th among the participating countries, the fourth among Asian teams after China, Japan and Iran, the fourth among the CIS countries after Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan, the second among the member states of the Turkic Council and the first among the countries of Central Asia.

Uzbekistan sports delegation improved its results and prepared a worthy gift for the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Uzbekistan.
