About 500 sambo fighters from almost 50 countries fighted for victory in 40 weight categories in this championship, organized by the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Olympic Committee, Uzbekistan Sambo Association and several other organizations.

At the World Championships, Uzbekistan athletes won 4 gold, 8 silver and 15 bronze medals. In the overall team standings, the junior team took the second place after the Russian sambo wrestlers, and the team of girls under 20 entered the top three.
