Our young palvan Suhrob Tursunov vying for success in judo mixed-team event has enriched the medal box of the Uzbek national team with an Olympic gold. Fighting in the squad ROUGE along the Puerto Rican Adrian Gandia, the Russian Mikhail Igolnikov, the French Morgane Duchene, the Argentine Ayelen Elizeche, the Dutch Lisa Mullenberg and the Portuguese Maria Siderot, the Uzbek Suhrob Tursunov rose to the highest podium with his teammates following their victory in the weight category of under 66 kilograms over Bulgaria’s Stoyan Tarapanov, Belarus’s Dzmitry Minkou, Armenia’s Harutyun Dermishyan and Costa Rica’s Julian Sancho.
Another compatriot of ours, Umida Abdullaeva, taking part in the WTF Taekwondo competitions of the Youth Olympics, has come second among the rivals in the weight category of over 63 kilograms. Umida, who entered the contest from the quarter finals, overcame Cariota Munave of Swaziland (17-3), Chen Li of China (1-0) in the semifinals and earned the silver medal of the Olympics.
In the meanwhile, Uzbek athletes have 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals of the 2014 Youth Olympics.
