Tashkent and Termez hosts scientific and practical conference on “Central Asian dialogue on rehabilitation and reintegration of returnees from Syria and Iraq: the experience of Uzbekistan”.

The conference is attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, civil society institutions of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, employees of international organizations accredited in the country and the diplomatic corps, foreign experts.

Humanitarian operations Mehr-1 and Mehr-2 were organized at the initiative of the President of the country in 2019, during which 261 women and children were returned from zones of armed conflict in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

On the first day of the conference, held in the form of plenary thematic sessions, reports were presented on “Political and legal aspects of reintegration of returned citizens: Review of the national experience” and “The role of social programs in the rehabilitation process”.

Issues of increasing people’s vigilance are being discussed at the conference. Current state and priorities of policies of Uzbekistan and the world community in reintegration and rehabilitation of people associated with religious extremist and terrorist organizations are being analyzed. It is planned to create a discussion platform on rehabilitation of the so-called returnees, as well as develop effective and practical proposals for their subsequent use in Central Asian and neighboring countries.
