The first meeting of the CIS Economic Forum was held via videoconference on September 9.

The event, organized at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was attended by the heads of economic and trade agencies of the CIS countries. Uzbekistan was represented by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov.

A constructive exchange of views has taken place on the mechanisms of cooperation to mitigate the negative consequences of the pandemic and stimulating economic activity in the CIS countries.

International perspectives on development of joint anti-crisis programs aimed at development of investment cooperation, mutual trade, as well as restoration of transport and communication ties were considered.

It was proposed to develop and adopt a joint program of cooperation between the CIS countries in digital economy and e-commerce, which would improve practical interaction between the participating countries in trade, finance and investment, transport, customs regulation, migration and food security.

Special attention was paid to the relevance of strengthening industrial cooperation in priority areas such as mechanical engineering, energy, electrical engineering, textile and pharmaceutical industries, and agriculture.

The parties also considered the prospects for building up cooperation in transport and communication sphere and implementation of joint projects of regional significance.
