Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States, Javlon Vakhabov, met with Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Global Women’s Issues, Kelley E. Currie.

Kelley E. Currie welcomed the efforts undertaken by the Government of Uzbekistan in ensuring gender equality, promoting the widespread involvement of women in public and political life of the country, promoting training programs for Afghanistan women in Uzbekistan. It was emphasized that the American side is closely monitoring the decisive shifts in Uzbekistan, which are already becoming a real driver of growth in the activity of the female half of society, not only in Uzbekistan, but also in the Central Asian region as a whole.

At the meeting, the parties discussed prospects of including Uzbekistan in the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative, launched in February 2019 by President Donald Trump.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing mutual visits of delegations of the two countries in order to establish and strengthen dialogue on the current issues of ensuring gender equality as the epidemiological situation in the world normalizes.
