Uzbekistan – Russia: New opportunities for the development of trade-economic relations
On September 20, Tashkent will host a conference “Russia and Uzbekistan facing the challenges of development and security at a new historical stage of interaction”.
The event is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan together with the Valdai Discussion Club.
According to the Director of the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research under the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan Umid Abidkhadjayev, in 2020, Russia ranked second in the foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan (14.8%). In 2017-2020, the trade turnover grew by more than 22%. Uzbekistan ranked fourth in the trade between Russia and the CIS countries in 2020.
The volume of attracted Russian investments in the economy of Uzbekistan reached $1.35 billion. Over 2.1 thousand enterprises with Russian participation are registered in Uzbekistan.
