14:42 / 2022-09-30

Experts from the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IFMR) analyzed changes in Uzbekistan’s positions in the Global Food Security Index in 2019-2022.

The GFSI, developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit, provides an annual assessment measuring food security through four key parameters – affordability, availability, quality and safety, and natural resources and resilience – across 113 countries. According to the results of the analysis, it was revealed that in the overall GFSI rating from 2019 to 2022, Uzbekistan rose by 12 positions, taking 73rd place out of 113 this year. Thus, Uzbekistan ranked first in the Top 10 countries with the greatest progress in ensuring food security in 2019-2022.

To improve Uzbekistan’s position in the ranking in the future, it is necessary to increase the supply of food on the domestic market, ensure the diversification of import supplies, develop National nutrition recommendations, accelerate the introduction of mandatory labeling of food products.
