Uzbekistan, Poland hold Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation Meeting

The 7th meeting of Uzbekistan – Poland Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation has been held via videoconference.

The meeting was held under the co-chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Badriddin Abidov and the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Technology of Poland, Robert Tomanek.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries, agencies and organizations of the parties. The parties discussed the issues of trade, economic, interregional cooperation. Attention was paid to issues of interaction in industry, transport, construction, agriculture, environmental protection, IT technologies, access to the Polish labor market and others.

The possibilities of assisting the agro-industrial complex of Uzbekistan in the modernization and development of agriculture, the development and implementation of a strategy for diversifying the agricultural sector, and the development of intensive horticulture were considered.

The head of the Polish delegation emphasized the role and importance of large-scale reforms in the economy and social sphere, carried out in recent years in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. According to him, both in Poland and in the European Union, they positively assess the foreign policy of the country’s leadership, which, in particular, demonstrates openness and disposition to enhance collaboration with European countries.

It was proposed to create a special format of cooperation on trade, economic and investment issues. Responsible institutions for resolving these issues on the Polish side will be the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology and the Investment and Trade Agency, and on the Uzbek side – the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade.

The Polish side expressed interest in cooperation in the agricultural sector and readiness to hold the first meeting of the Interagency Group on Agriculture in May-June this year in Tashkent.
