The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Malaysia together with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) held a roundtable discussion with participation of representatives of the business community on trade-economic, investment and tourism potential of Uzbekistan, in Kota Kinabalu (Sabah State Administrative Centre).

The Malaysian side was thoroughly acquainted with favorable business conditions created in Uzbekistan, measures taken to support development of hotel construction, large-scale economic reforms (including monetary policy, introduction of private ownership of land), the activity of free economic zones, trade and economic potential of the country, in particular of Khorezm region, including the FEZ “Khazorasp”, as well as the upcoming international investment forums in Uzbekistan.

The Malaysian side expressed great interest in further strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan, in particular by organizing exports of fruit and vegetable products to Malaysia, implementing promising investment projects in various sectors of the economy, including the energy sector, textile and food industries, as well as mutual promotion of tourism potential of Uzbekistan’s regions and Sabah State.

Following the event, an agreement was reached on organizing a visit of state business representatives to Uzbekistan for exploring the possibility of establishing cooperation in the above-mentioned areas.
