Uzbekistan, Latvia enhance cooperation in transport and logistics

During the visit to Uzbekistan, the Latvian delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture, Co-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission Kaspars Gerhards, who participated in the Tashkent International Investment Forum, met with the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Mahkamov.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia Uldis Reimanis, Ambassadors of Uzbekistan in Riga Qadamboy Sultanov and Latvia – in Tashkent Reinis Troksha.

Practical aspects of cooperation between the relevant structures of Uzbekistan and Latvia in transport, logistics and transit were discussed. Mutual interest in a significant expansion of cooperation in this priority area was confirmed, significant potential and sufficient practical experience for further building mutually beneficial ties were emphasized.

Following the talks, a trilateral Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Riga International Airport, Latvian Post and Uzbekistan Airways JSC in the provision of air cargo services. The document provides for the organization of air transportation of mail and cargo to Latvia and EU countries on board Uzbekistan Airways JSC, the establishment of air transport links between China and Latvia through Uzbekistan, cooperation in the delivery of humanitarian goods from Latvia to Afghanistan through Uzbekistan within the framework of the World Food Programme.

The schedule and agenda of the upcoming contacts between the relevant structures of Uzbekistan and Latvia have been discussed to obtain up-to-date information about the specifics of using Latvian ports and terminals in the new conditions.
