Uzbekistan’s Fergana city hosted a meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and the Acting Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Artem Novikov.
According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, the parties discussed issues of the current multifaceted partnership, as well as promising measures to strengthen trade and economic cooperation, develop industrial cooperation, and enhance interaction in transport, logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Positive trends were noted in trade. Over the past three years, Uzbekistan – Kyrgyz trade turnover has grown more than 5 times and maintains positive dynamics even in the context of the pandemic.
In this regard, an agreement was reached to accelerate the bilateral development of the Plan of practical measures to enhance and deepen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in industrial cooperation, which includes agreed projects and specific practical measures to eliminate existing barriers in trade, transport and mutual investment.
An agreement was also reached on the implementation of joint measures to stimulate direct contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries to develop new areas of industrial and trade cooperation.
The priorities of cooperation in transport were identified. The parties will continue close cooperation on the issue of using the PRC – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan railway corridor.
