Uzbekistan, Korea strengthen bilateral cooperation

The University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted an expert forum “Uzbekistan – Korea: A look into the future”, organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the assistance of Korea – Central Asia Cooperation Forum Secretariat.

The forum, with the participation of leading experts and heads of analytical centers of the two countries, representatives of research and education institutions, was organized by the Program of joint events dedicated to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea.

Akramjan Nematov, First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies addressed the event. He noted that the purpose of creating a platform for dialogue is to develop proposals for further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Executive Director of Korea – Central Asia Cooperation Forum Secretariat Rhee Jong Kook, Counselor-Envoy of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan Kuk Jang Hyun, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov delivered speeches.

It was noted that over three decades, Uzbekistan – Korean relations have reached the level of a special strategic partnership, consistently developing based on the principles of mutual respect, trust and consideration of interests.

Information was presented on the activities carried out and planned for implementation in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

It was noted that the growth of mutual trade and investment indicates a high pace of strengthening the partnership.

The forum continued its work in the context of the main areas aimed at strengthening bilateral relations on various topics.

The areas of interaction were considered during the thematic sessions on “Uzbekistan – Korea: comprehensive political dialogue as the basis of a special strategic partnership”, “Uzbekistan – Korea: search for new growth points and development drivers”, “Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is a guarantee of friendship, mutual understanding and sustainable development”.

Following the forum, proposals were developed to enhance collaboration in several areas.
