Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan: security cooperation

On June 29, Tashkent hosted bilateral consultations of the Security Councils of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan.The event was organized to ensure implementation of the Protocol, signed following the results of consultations of the Security Councils of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan held on August 25, 2017 in Astana. It was attended by a delegation led by the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Secretary of the Security Council Nurlan Yermekbayev.
At the event, issues of further development of cooperation in ensuring regional security and achieving sustainable development were discussed. As noted, the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan provides an opportunity for further strengthening multifaceted cooperation. Intensification of ties between the territories of the two countries serves to bring people closer together.
Consultative meetings of Security Councils contribute to strengthening peace cooperation. In the past short period, such a mechanism of consultations has proved its relevance and has shown its importance as an effective platform for finding solutions to important issues in mutual relations.
At the consultations, organized for the third time, the situation in Afghanistan, the current situation and conditions in the Central Asian region were analyzed. Views were exchanged on conducting joint combat preparation of military equipment and troops, joint military exercises, and intensification of interdepartmental relations in the fight against illegal migration. Issues of expanding joint activities in improving methods, means, and international legal framework against illegal interference in the customs service and civil aviation were discussed.
During the conversation, the need for implementation of the roadmap for security cooperation in 2017-2018 was noted. The first results of implementation of the roadmap of roads and areas that was approved on September 16, 2017 in Tashkent by the governments of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan, proposed for construction on Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan state borders, repair and modernization of checkpoints were considered.
At the event, suggestions and recommendations were made on improving bilateral and regional cooperation mechanisms, developing joint initiatives in this field.
A protocol was signed on the results of bilateral consultations of the Security Councils of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Secretary of the Security Council N.Yermekbayev met with the head of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan B.Matlubov.
Views were exchanged on the issues of further strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism and crimes related to illicit traffic in narcotic drugs.
Guests were provided with information on activities carried out in the system on combating crime and in the system of personnel training in the field of protection of rights.
The delegation of Kazakhstan arrived in Samarkand on the same day and visited the mausoleum of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. The guests were told about the large-scale work on construction and landscaping, held in the Hazrati Khizr complex, where the great head of state found eternal rest.
