Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan discuss cooperation on water quality issues of Syrdarya river basin

On December 24, the 3rd meeting of Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan joint working group on environmental protection and water quality in Syrdarya river basin was held via videoconference.

It was attended by the heads of environmental agencies and experts. At the meeting, reports of the parties on the physical and chemical indicators of water quality were heard. The results of monitoring in this sphere were considered. Further plans for the activities of the working group to improve the environmental situation in Syrdarya river basin were discussed.

The parties, on the basis of the data obtained during the research, noted that for most indicators, the excess of pollution of permissible standard norms has not been established.

The importance of connecting all countries of Syrdarya river basin to the activities of Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan working group was emphasized, which would contribute to obtaining full information along the entire length of the river and developing a program of joint actions.

Following the meeting, the Working Group’s Work Plan for 2021-2022 was approved. An agreement was reached on further intensifying interaction on monitoring water quality.
