Uzbekistan – Japan: Prospects for cooperation in energy

A meeting was held between the Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov and the Ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan Yoshinori Fujiyama.

The current state and prospects of Uzbekistan – Japan energy cooperation, including projects in renewable energy and possibilities of support in this direction from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) were discussed at the meeting.

The Ambassador of Japan was informed about the reforms implemented recently in the energy sector of Uzbekistan, the attention paid by the government of the country to the creation of the National Research Institute of Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy and the Research Center for Hydrogen Energy at this research Institute.

The parties discussed the possibility of attracting Japanese experts to work with the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan in such promising areas as electricity storage and network stabilization.

At the meeting, Ambassador Yoshinori Fujiyama invited Alisher Sultanov to take part in the first online Meeting of Ministers of the Asia Green Growth Partnership, scheduled for October 4 this year.

Issues of a pragmatic energy transition in Asian countries, which is important and relevant for the implementation of global decarbonization in the context of the urgent need to solve the problem of climate change will be discussed at the event.
