Uzbekistan – Japan Political Consultations take place

On December 23, 2020, political consultations took place between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Japan via videoconference, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

The delegations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov and Deputy Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Shuichi Tokuda.

Issues of further deepening and enhancing Uzbekistan – Japan strategic partnership in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres, as well as interaction within the framework of international organizations and multilateral structures were discussed.

The schedule and organizational aspects of the upcoming joint events, including multilateral cooperation within the framework of Japan+Central Asia Dialogue, were considered.

The parties expressed interest in restoring the previous dynamics of economic relations and intensifying contacts between the businesspeople of the two countries.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in industrial modernization, development and diversification of Uzbekistan’s economy through introduction of modern technologies, implementation of investment projects in energy, agriculture, education, healthcare and science.

The opening of a Digital University in Tashkent, created jointly with Japan’s Digital Knowledge Company, where online training will be conducted according to Japanese universities’ program became an important project in education.

The sides noted the importance of continuing close cooperation on establishment of a joint University with Yamanashi Gakuin.

During the consultations, the parties also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
