Uzbekistan – Italy: Think tanks rise cooperation to a new level

On April 13-14, 2023, a delegation consisting of representatives of Uzbekistan's think tanks visited Rome, Italy, and held a series of meetings and dialogues aimed at presenting the reforms implemented in the country and further developing bilateral cooperation.

Eldor Tulyakov, the Executive Director of the Development Strategy Center and Obid Hakimov, the Director of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the first day of the visit held meetings with the leadership of the Italian Vision & Global Trends International Institute, the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI) and the Research Institute of Italians – Eurispes, providing political, economic and social research.

During the talks, Mr. Tulyakov informed about the changes taking place in Uzbekistan in recent years, in particular, the content of the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 and the monitoring of State programs adopted within it, the main directions of the Center's activities in this process.

According to the Development Strategy Center, Presentations were made for Italian politicians and analysts about the renewed Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the main amendments and additions provided for in it. In particular, it was noted that every amendment to the updated Constitution is made taking into account the wishes and wills of the multi-ethnic Uzbek people, international legal documents and the experience of more than 190 countries were studied in the preparation of the draft Constitution, and 6 types of expertise were performed.

In turn, the Italian partners showed great interest in the socio-economic reforms implemented in Uzbekistan. In particular, Uzbekistan's efforts to strengthen and develop friendly relations with the world community, especially neighboring countries, based on cooperation, mutual support, peace and harmony, were highly appreciated.

In particular, it was recognized that special attention in the amendments and additions to the updated Constitution was paid to the further improvement of the constitutional foundations of the peace-loving foreign policy of Uzbekistan.

Following the meetings held in the spirit of sincere and friendly dialogue, it was agreed to further develop the cooperation between the think tanks of the two countries while continuously analyzing the ongoing processes in the social, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres in Uzbekistan.

On the first day of the visit, the Head of the Development Strategy Center, E. Tulyakov, held a discussion with the Italian translator Doriana Somma on the issue of translating into Italian the infographic pamphlet “Renewed Constitution” prepared by the Center and dedicated to the constitutional reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan.

It is worth mentioning here that D. Somma is a translator who successfully translated into Italian the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 and contributed to the presentation of this publication to the Italian public in their native language.
