The University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a roundtable discussion on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Italy. It was attended by senators, diplomats, UWED faculty, representatives of international organizations and media workers.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Uzbekistan Agostino Pinna also attended the meeting.

First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, UWED Rector Sodik Safoyev noted that Uzbekistan considers Italy a country with a unique cultural and historical heritage, a major industrial center with a wide economic, scientific, technical and intellectual potential. He also emphasized that he is watching with great interest Italy’s productive activities on the world stage, in particular within the G-7 and G-20.

Interstate trade is expected to reach $1 billion in the coming years. The scale of cooperation in joint industrial projects is increasing, including with such well-known Italian companies as Danieli, Pietro Fiorentini, Wood and Ferroli.

The parties noted bilateral relations in culture, science and education, expressed confidence in strengthening friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and Italy.
