Ambassador of Uzbekistan Otabek Akbarov has met with the President of ENIT Italian National Tourism Board Giorgio Palmucci.
The parties discussed the possibilities of building up cooperation in tourism, including strengthening the legal framework for interaction between the tourism agencies of the two countries.
It was noted that the tourism sector, being a strategic sector of the economy of both countries, is one of the priority areas of cooperation. Before the pandemic, Italians among the citizens of European countries ranked first in tourist trips to Uzbekistan – about 15-16 thousand tourists visited Uzbekistan annually. Before the termination of flights in 2019, Uzbekistan Airways operated 4 flights a week – two flights to Rome and two flights to Milan.
Since currently, the situation with the coronavirus in Uzbekistan has improved significantly, all types of tourism activities have been resumed.
ENIT President Giorgio Palmucci fully supported the proposal to sign an Agreement between ENIT and Uzbekistan’s Center for Dispatching and Serving Tourists, which may include, among other things, the organization of workshops, webinars and internships for Uzbekistan tour operators, managers and representatives of companies engaged in tourism and hotel business.
