Uzbekistan is committed to improving the status of women in the public and political spheres
19:35 / 2023-07-10

The OSCE/ODIHR mission, as a clear example of Uzbekistan's commitment to improving the status of women in the public and political spheres, points to the nomination of a representative of fair gender identity as one of the candidates for the post of Head of State.

In this context, it must be emphasized that achieving gender equality, ensuring the rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests of women, and strengthening their role in public and state life have become one of the priorities of the state policy of Uzbekistan.

Several decrees, resolutions of the President, and government resolutions have been adopted. There are no restrictions for women to stand as candidates in elections or conduct election campaigning.

The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men” establishes equal rights and opportunities for women and men to be elected to representative authorities. Women can have a real impact on political decision-making.

Reforms to increase women's participation in public and political life have been underway since 2016, and the number of women in parliament has increased significantly. Thus, involving women in managing the affairs of society and the state will increasingly become irreversible.
