Tashkent is hosting the 48th meeting of the Joint Committee of Regional Metrology Organizations and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
The event, organized at the initiative of the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology under the Agency for Technical Regulation, is attended by BIPM Director Martin Milton, as well as heads of regional metrology organizations, international experts, and specialists in this field.
“As is well known, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures promotes the introduction of the International System of Units and time scales in all countries of the world”, said Martin Milton. “The Bureau is located in Paris and has been operating for 150 years. At this prestigious conference, representatives of six regions of the globe gather and exchange experiences. It is worth noting that Uzbekistan has taken a significant step toward full membership in the Metre Convention and integration into the global measurement system. In particular, the work of laboratories and the government’s investment policy contribute to the country’s full integration into this technical system, which enables the international exchange of technical products, healthcare-related equipment, and other resources”.
The Uzbek National Institute of Metrology is currently actively participating in the activities of the BIPM and regional organizations. Its involvement in international comparison projects demonstrates the capabilities and reliability of the country’s metrology sector.
At the meeting, initiatives were discussed regarding the training and professional development of metrologists, the organization of internships, the implementation of joint initiatives, and the enhancement of activities at national metrology institutes.
The holding of this international event in Uzbekistan will allow special attention to be paid to the needs and potential of the Central Asian region.
