Uzbekistan – India Business Council to be established

The program of the upcoming state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to India includes meetings with heads of leading Indian companies, where issues of further strengthening bilateral relations in trade, economic and investment spheres will be discussed.

On the eve of this important event, the Ministry for Foreign Trade, State Investment Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the country’s Embassy in Delhi and Confederation of Indian Industry held Uzbekistan – India business forum.

Uzbekistan’s delegation was represented by heads of ministries and agencies, regional and city khokimiyats, large companies such as Uzavtosanoat, Uzbekenergo, Uzbekneftegaz, Uzmetkombinat, Uzqurilishmateriallari, Uzeltechsanoat, as well as private business representatives. More than 150 representatives of large industrial enterprises, small and medium-sized business entities of India attended the event.

Various sectors of economy of Uzbekistan and India are developing at a dynamic pace, and joint projects between representatives of business circles of the two countries are expanding.

Cooperation in economy is one of the main priorities in mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and India.

There are 145 enterprises with Indian capital in Uzbekistan.

The trade turnover in 2017 amounted to more than 320 million USD. Metal, mineral fertilizers, balms, silk, beans and others are exported from Uzbekistan to India. Pharmaceutical and medical products, as well as black metal, technological equipment, spare parts for cars are exported from India to Uzbekistan.

Following the events organized within the framework of preparation for the upcoming state visit of the President of Uzbekistan, agreements were reached on implementation of 30 export contracts worth more than 95 million USD, as well as over 50 investment projects worth 3 billion USD.

An Agreement on establishment of Uzbekistan – India Business Council was signed between the Confederation of Indian Industry and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan’s national exhibition has been also organized in Delhi, where stands of machine-building, agricultural, fruit and vegetable, confectionery, food products and other leading industries of the country are presented.

The business forum became a continuation of joint events held in August 2018 in Tashkent and Delhi.
