Uzbekistan hosts World Judo Championships

The fifth day of the 35th World Judo Championships in Tashkent opened a bright page in the sports life of the country, in particular in Uzbek judo history.

Uzbekistan’s young athlete Shakhnoza Nazarova made her debut, an experienced athlete Gulnoza Madniyozova scored important ranking points for participation in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Davlat Bobonov glorified the Motherland and celebrated his championship.

The performance of Uzbekistan’s talented athlete Davlat Bobonov, winner of the Tokyo Olympics in the weight category up to 90 kg, attracted the attention of thousands of judo lovers.

He defeated the strongest rivals from Slovakia, South Korea and Bulgaria. In the semi-finals, he crushed his long-time rival – the winner of the Tokyo Olympics Lasha Bekauri from Georgia and got the opportunity to fight for the world championships.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev watched the finals directly from the podium of the Humo Arena.

Davlat Bobonov did not leave a chance for the world youth champion, Italian Christian Parlati, and won the world championship.

Davlat Bobonov earned an important ranking point for participation in the Summer Olympic Games to be held in Paris in two years.

In addition, Bobonov strengthened Uzbekistan’s position at the 35th World Championships among 82 participating countries, bringing the national team to sixth place.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the awarding ceremony.

Championships will run until October 13.
