Uzbekistan hosts the ninth meeting of SCO transport ministers

On May 11-12, Uzbekistan hosted the ninth meeting of the transport ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in Khiva.

On the first day of the event, the guests visited Khiva and examined the Ichan Kala monument, a shrine with a rich history.

At the meeting, organized within the framework of the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the SCO, the transport ministers discussed various issues related to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, expanding transport corridors, and effectively using existing opportunities.

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed to ensure the stable operation of transport between the SCO member states in interstate emergencies and a Memorandum of Cooperation to ensure the uninterrupted operation of transport, taking into account the situation that arose between the states due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding and Roads Development Program in the SCO member states were prepared. A special working group will be created to develop cooperation in transport.

The next meeting of SCO transport ministers will be held in 2023 in India.
