Tashkent hosted Textile Summit on “New balance in the global textile market – players and trends”.

The event was organized as part of the 5th International Textile Week. The participants summed up the results of the reforms carried out in the textile industry in Uzbekistan.

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva noted that in recent history, Uzbekistan was one of the largest suppliers of raw cotton in the world. Still, the annual income from its exports was only about $1 billion.

And today, following large-scale reforms carried out in this area, Uzbekistan is becoming one of the recognized leaders in the global market. So, in 2021, Uzbekistan managed to export finished textile products worth $3 billion, which is especially important for ensuring economic stability and creating new jobs.

The Textile Summit was held with the direct participation and support of such leading world organizations as the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

It was attended by over 300 well-known global brands and retailers, heads of textile companies and associations from the European Union and the United States, Asia and Africa, and the CIS countries.

The Chairperson of the Senate noted that the strong political will of the Head of the state, large-scale work to protect human rights, reform the agricultural sector, the principle of fighting not with the consequences of the problem, but with the factors that cause it, give their high results.

“Uzbekistan is a country with high demographic pressure on the labor market”, Mrs. Narbayeva said. – Every year, over 600 thousand young people enter the labor market. This, in turn, requires further expansion of sectors of the economy and the creation of decent new jobs. The results of large-scale reforms implemented in the sphere are impressive, but we will not rest on our laurels, on the contrary, we will focus on new growth points in the sphere.
