Uzbekistan enhances cooperation with ICCROM
17:37 / 2021-03-09

The Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to UNESCO has held a virtual meeting with the Director-General of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) Webber Ndoro.

Mr. Webber Ndoro noted that being a country with more than 7 thousand historical and architectural monuments, Uzbekistan can receive significant benefits from membership in ICCROM, including in the exchange and study of experience in preserving heritage under international standards. It was emphasized that the accession of the country to ICCROM will also provide an opportunity for full participation in global and regional processes in the preservation and promotion of monuments, which enhances the country’s image in the international arena.

ICCROM Director-General highly appreciated the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to organize the International Cultural Forum “Central Asia at the Crossroads of World Civilizations” in 2021 in Khiva, which will be another opportunity to familiarize and study the contribution of Central Asian countries to the development of culture, science and other spheres. He expressed full readiness to provide technical and advisory assistance in the development and solution of all substantive and organizational aspects of the event at a high level.

Mr. Webber Ndoro welcomed and fully supported the initiative of Uzbekistan leadership to create an International Consultative Mechanism for the Preservation and Restoration of World Heritage Sites in Uzbekistan with the involvement of prominent international experts, including ICCROM.
