Deputy Prime Minister Sardor Umurzakov has held virtual talks with the United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.
Virtual talks have been held between Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.
The parties discussed the current issues of the agenda of Uzbekistan – American partnership and agreed on further steps to comprehensively strengthen bilateral cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, the parties discussed the current areas of cooperation in investment and entrepreneurship. It was noted that currently there are 276 enterprises in Uzbekistan with participation of American investments.
Current issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation were considered and further measures were agreed to increase the volume and nomenclature of bilateral trade amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Appreciation was expressed for the U.S. support provided to Uzbekistan in the process of accession to the WTO, in particular for the technical assistance of USAID. At the same time, Wilbur Ross assured the Uzbek side that the United States will continue to provide maximum support for Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.
Prospects for strengthening cooperation in the textile industry were considered. In this context, the Uzbek side expressed gratitude for the support in resolving the issue of excluding Uzbek cotton by the U.S. Department of Labor from the list of products produced using forced or child labor and lifting the ban on its purchase.
