12:20 / 2021-11-18

On November 17, Tashkent hosted a roundtable discussion dedicated to the integrated strategy for financing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Uzbekistan.

The UNDP is developing a comprehensive strategy for financing the SDGs to activate planning processes in the country, as well as to overcome existing obstacles in financing stable development. This strategy is aimed at helping the Government to properly allocate financial flows to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.

The objectives of the strategy, developed by the Government of the country jointly with UNDP, are the eradication of poverty, environmental protection and the achievement of all 16 national Sustainable Development Goals.

The roundtable discussion became a platform for discussion of the main national development priorities and the plan of a comprehensive strategy for financing the SDGs for Uzbekistan with the government and development partners.

Participants discussed the importance of an integrated approach to financing the long-term development agenda. SDG Finance Specialist at UNDP Tim Strawson presented the best practices of individual countries in creating a comprehensive financing strategy to determine which methods and tools can be replicated in Uzbekistan.

The conference contributed to gathering all the parties involved in the financing for the development process and initiating a dialogue to determine the country's long-term sustainable development priorities, its specific problems, public financing opportunities and expectations from the SDG financing strategy.
