Uzbekistan declared Leader of the Global Postal Industry 2023
09:21 / 2023-10-09

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) held its fourth Extraordinary Congress in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 1 to 5 October 2023.

It was also attended by the Uzbekistan delegation led by Advisor to the Minister of Digital Technologies Jamshid Egamberdiyev.

At this meeting of postal plenipotentiaries, historic decisions were made that will affect the global postal sector, including groundbreaking agreements on opening up to more comprehensive postal sector players, climate action targets, and modernization plans for postal financial services. An unprecedented “green package” was approved during the Congress, outlining voluntary climate action targets for the postal sector. These targets aim to reduce the global greenhouse gas emissions of the postal industry and build capacity for climate action.

Representatives of Uzbekistan informed the participants about postal service reforms being implemented in the country. Its management is being transferred to market conditions, the types of services are expanding, and measures are being implemented to liberalize and develop networks and tools for providing postal and additional services. It was noted that to improve the quality and reliability of postal services, information technologies and new types of inexpensive services are being introduced, considering the market situation.

Following the report of the Uzbekistan delegation within the framework of the Congress, Uzbekistan was declared the “Leader of the Global Postal Industry” in 2023 and awarded the international “Bright Star” award.
