This has been noted by A. Nematov, ISRS First Deputy Director, during a special session on Afghanistan of the 13th Russian International Studies Association Convention (RISA).

Speaking about the current problems facing Afghanistan, A. Nematov stated that the country is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Moreover, Afghanistan is facing yet another severe drought, the second in four years, with a severe negative impact on agriculture and food production.

Experts predict that the difficult socio-economic situation may lead to further destabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and an increase in the flow of refugees from this country. According to UN estimates, by the end of this year, their number may reach 515 thousand. At the same time, neighboring countries will become the main recipients of Afghan refugees.

That is why today it is important to consolidate the efforts of the international community to prevent a large-scale humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

13th Russian International Studies Association Convention (RISA) was attended by over 2 thousand leading Russian and international scientists and experts who discussed the dynamics of Russian foreign policy, the relationship of Russia with partners, modern international legal aspects of world politics.

A special session on Afghanistan was organized jointly with the Uzbek side – the International Institute for Central Asia and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
