Uzbekistan chairs CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting

10 December 2020, the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held via videoconference under the Presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The event was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as the Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev.

The participants exchanged views on the current issues of interaction within CIS and international agenda, as well as discussed a number of organizational issues.

It was noted that in the context of the ongoing process in the world related to the pandemic and other global challenges, the Commonwealth confirms its important role in the economic and social development of participating states, strengthening comprehensive cooperation between them.

12 decisions and documents were adopted following the meeting in various areas of cooperation. In particular, Multi-Level Inter-MFA Consultations Plan within the framework of CIS for 2021 was approved and the distribution of quota positions among participating states in the CIS Executive Committee for the next three-year period was agreed.

It was decided to hold the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in April 2021, in Russia.
