Uzbekistan celebrates International Nurses Day
15:50 / 2024-05-12

Every year on May 12, the whole world, including Uzbekistan, celebrates International Nurses Day. It was established in honor of the birth of the Englishwoman Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing.

It should be noted that this profession plays a vital role in providing quality and effective healthcare. Nurses can impact patient care outcomes and improve patient satisfaction through dedication, competence, and patient care.

Uzbekistan understands the importance of training highly qualified specialists in this field. Thus, from the 2023/2024 academic year, in accordance with the resolution of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the introduction of an “improved system of healthcare delivery” in primary healthcare, the Nursing Academy began to operate in the country. It was created based on the Chilanzar College of Public Health named after Abu Ali ibn Sina.

In addition, the Faculty of Higher Nursing has been operating at the Tashkent Medical Academy since 1999, and it includes five departments. The teaching staff includes about 60 employees, including 5 doctors of science and 15 candidates of science, as well as senior teachers and assistants. Today, about 300 students study at the faculty, and upon completion of the course, they will receive a diploma in higher education.

The number of nurses with higher education throughout the country has reached about two thousand people. It is encouraging that there are scientists among them since nurses’ participation in scientific activities contributes to the emergence of new knowledge and innovations in medicine and increases the nursing profession’s prestige.

What is essential is that a system of financial incentives has been introduced for health workers who achieve high results in providing nursing care. This includes, for example, bonuses, salary increases, and other additional payments.

All these efforts to introduce a system for training paramedical personnel with higher education based on the experience of developed countries, stimulating scientific activity and efficiency make it possible to improve the level of their competencies, which, in turn, contributes to better provision of medical care in the country, improvement of public health and development of healthcare in general.
