A festival of Korean culture – the national holiday Chuseok has been held at the House of Korean Culture and Art in Tashkent.

According to the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries, the event was attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, diplomatic missions, media, residents of Tashkent, and regions.

A photo exhibition was organized, which tells about the life of Koreans in Uzbekistan and their resettlement to Central Asia.

The event was organized by the Association of Korean Cultural Centers with the assistance of the Korean Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

“Chuseok” means “Autumn Eve” in Korean and is a harvest festival lasting three days straight. It is scheduled based on the Korean lunar calendar, but it also always comes around the time of the Autumnal Equinox. Chuseok is sometimes called “Korean Thanksgiving” due to its harvest associations and timing in Autumn. Many South Koreans visit the hometown of their ancestors for Chuseok and feast there on traditional foods.

Chairman of the Association of Korean Cultural Centers of Uzbekistan Viktor Pak, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uzbekistan Kang Jae Kwon addressed the festival’s opening ceremony.

For her worthy contribution to strengthening the atmosphere of friendship and harmony between representatives of different nationalities, the head of the “Asadal” folk ensemble, Alina Khan, was awarded the “Friendship of Peoples” badge. The Chairmen of the Karakalpak and Khorezm branches of the Association of Korean Cultural Centers of Uzbekistan were also awarded certificates of honor.

Performances by creative groups gave the event a particularly festive mood. According to the tradition of the Uzbek people, festive pilaf was prepared for the guests.
