Ambassador Javlon Vakhabov met with Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Brazil Jean Marcel Fernandes to discuss issues of enhancing collaboration in introducing modern agricultural technologies.
During the talks, interest was expressed in studying Brazil’s best practices in growing crops with high yields, including cotton and soybeans. The main attention was paid to the issues of cooperation in the implementation of advanced irrigation technologies, including drip irrigation, as well as increasing mutual trade.
Jean Marcel Fernandes assured that the Brazilian side is ready to intensify cooperation in the agricultural sector. According to him, there is a large untapped potential in this area. In both Uzbekistan and Brazil, agriculture is an important sector of the economy, about 10% of the country’s GDP is generated by the agricultural sector, where about 20% of the population is employed, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture said.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture emphasized the need for further developing bilateral trade relations in the agricultural sector. He expressed readiness to discuss with domestic authorities the issues of obtaining phytosanitary permits, establishing export/import of certain crops and meat products, developing partnerships with relevant agencies and companies in Brazil.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their mutual commitment to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, and outlined specific steps to further develop the partnership.
