On April 13-23, Poland’s Kielce hosted Youth World Boxing Championships.
It was organized by AIBA. 18 boxers from Uzbekistan took part in the championships in 10 weight categories.
The championship has become notable for Uzbekistan for the fact that for the first time two representatives of the country reached the final of the competition. Until now, not a single female athlete from Uzbekistan who took part in the World Boxing Championships has reached the final.
In the weight category up to 54 kg, Nigina Uktamova became the first Uzbekistan athlete to win gold at the World Championships. Mokhinabonu Abdullayeva won a silver medal.
Uzbek girls completed the World Youth Championships, having won 6 medals – 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.
Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Muzaffarov (52 kg) and Jakhongir Zokirov (91+) had no equal in their weight categories. They won gold medals, and two other athletes, Alokhon Abdullayev (69 kg) and Shokhjakhon Abdullayev (81 kg) won bronze medals.
Out of 57 teams that took part in the World Championships, the Uzbek athletes took 3rd place in the team classification. India is in the first place, Russia in the second.
