On 31 March 2022, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov took part in the High-level Pledging Event on Supporting the Humanitarian Response in Afghanistan, via videoconference, Uzbekistan MFA reports.
The forum was organized by the UN jointly with the Governments of the United Kingdom, Germany and Qatar to mobilize donor funds to finance UN humanitarian activities in Afghanistan and draw the attention of the international community to the humanitarian crisis in that country.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the heads of the foreign ministries of the co-hosts addressed the conference. The current humanitarian situation in Afghanistan with an emphasis on the situation of women and children was discussed at the plenary session.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov voiced the position and vision of the Uzbek side regarding the stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and the establishment of cooperation with the interim government of the country, as well as provided information on specific measures taken by Uzbekistan to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people. The importance of active participation of the UN in the mobilization and coordination of international efforts to assist Afghanistan was noted.
