Uzbekistan and the United States intensify cooperation in human rights
09:33 / 2024-05-23

A meeting was held at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan with a delegation led by the U.S. Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya.

Members of the delegation were informed about the work and reforms carried out in Uzbekistan regarding human rights and freedoms. They discussed ensuring gender equality, freedom of opinion and speech, preventing and combating corruption, eradicating torture, and regulating migration.

Prosecutor General Nigmatilla Yuldashev noted that democratic reforms are consistently being carried out in the country, and important attention is paid to improving human dignity. Regulations relating to the observance of the rights of women, children, and migrant workers confirm this.

Guests were also told about the measures taken to ensure the rule of law, prevent torture and other harassment, and apply a special approach to international cooperation.

At the meeting, issues of strengthening the legal foundations of a democratic state, adapting them to international standards, and further enhancing cooperation in human rights at the systemic level were discussed.
