22:39 / 2023-10-10

The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala.

The parties discussed issues of trade and economics, ensuring human rights and freedoms.

It was proposed to develop and adopt a separate plan of practical measures between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the European Parliament for 2024.

During the conversation, issues of economic cooperation were given priority attention. It was noted that the pace of trade turnover continues to grow steadily. Since the beginning of the year, this figure has increased by 35 percent. Major investment projects are being implemented with leading European companies. The “GSP+” regime has become a motivating factor for the export of high-quality Uzbek products to the European market. In this regard, views were exchanged regarding the extension of this regime for a new period.

Establishing regional dialogue was emphasized, particularly the transformation of the “Central Asia – European Union” cooperation format into an essential platform for supporting the further development of relations.

The issue of strengthening the dialogue between women leaders of Central Asian countries and the European Union was discussed. It was noted that the following dialogue meeting, planned to be held in Brussels with the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, will be of great importance. This event provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the experience of the European Union in gender equality and promotion of women’s rights and interests and acts as an impetus for a new stage of cooperation.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to saturate the multifaceted cooperation with practical content and ensure the consistency of mutual dialogues.
