Uzbekistan and Tajikistan’s place in the common historical-cultural space of Central Asia

A roundtable discussion on the place of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in the common historical and cultural space of Central Asia has taken place via videoconference on April 21.

The event was organized by the International Institute for Central Asia and the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

The event was attended by more than 25 specialists from leading expert-analytical and research institutions of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

The Tajik side was represented by relevant structures of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan – the Institute of History, the Institute of Philosophy and Law, the Institute for the Study of Problems of Asian and African Countries, as well as the Russian-Tajik University and the Embassy of Tajikistan in Uzbekistan.

The Uzbek side was attended by experts from IICA, the Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute of History, the National Center of Archaeology, the State Museum of Memory of the Victims of Repression, Tashkent Branch of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and others.

The scientific event was held to exchange best practices and knowledge in the preservation, study, and popularization of the historical and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, identifying the need for further development of humanitarian cooperation to strengthen common cultural ties in Central Asia.

It was emphasized that thanks to the firm political will and joint efforts of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have received a new breath and today the strategic partnership is developing and strengthening in all directions.

The participants agreed on the need for further enhancing cultural-humanitarian cooperation through regular joint events, exchange of experience and knowledge in preserving and studying the historical and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, which will further strengthen the centuries-old ties of friendship and good neighborliness of the two fraternal states.
