Uzatom hosted a workshop on the prospects for developing nuclear medicine in Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by representatives of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety, the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Health, the Project Office “Center for Healthcare Projects”, the Radiopreparat state enterprise, heads and specialists of the country’s leading medical institutions, as well as specialists from the Rosatom Construction Technologies division.
The Russian side shared its experience in developing nuclear medicine infrastructure in accordance with modern international standards. Examples of creating cyclotron complexes, producing radiopharmaceuticals, and organizing PET/CT diagnostic centers, as well as of successfully implemented international projects, were discussed at the event. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev actively supports such initiatives. A Nuclear Medicine Center project has been launched in Tashkent, planned to be equipped with PET/CT equipment, a cyclotron, and other facilities. It aims to improve the quality of cancer care, detect cancer at an early stage, and train highly qualified specialists in accordance with international standards.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a joint roadmap and strategy for advancing nuclear medicine in Uzbekistan.
