Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan discuss joint border security measures

On December 12, 2025, Fergana hosted the 7th Meeting of the Military Council of the Border Troops of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Border Guard Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, chaired by the heads of the border agencies of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere, underscoring the parties’ commitment to strengthening cooperation in state border protection and regional security.

Current operational and service issues, the results of joint activities over the past period, and prospects for expanding cooperation at the interdepartmental, regional, and local levels were discussed at the meeting.

The parties noted the positive dynamics in implementing joint plans to ensure stability in the border territories, counter cross-border crime and illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and weapons, and manage border infrastructure.

Special emphasis was placed on coordinating units along the border, exchanging operational information, and enhancing the effectiveness of joint operations. The participants emphasized the need to improve interaction mechanisms to enable rapid responses to emerging challenges and threats.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed outlining the agreed-upon activities and priority areas of cooperation for the coming period.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to strictly adhere to the course set by the heads of state of the two countries to maintain peace and tranquility along the jointly guarded state border and to resolve emerging issues in the spirit of good neighborliness, friendship, trust, and constructive partnership.
